Whenever if possible, our veterinarian and a team at Chiang Mai Chotana Animal Hospital will focus our efforts on prevention of all illness. Nothing makes us feel happier than knowing and seeing pets and family leaving our practice without any health issues. However, event like that will not always be the case. Digestive system

Our veterinarian at Chiang Mai Chotana Animal Hospital regularly examines and treats an illness of gastro-intestinal system or diseases and variety conditions of digestive system. Organs in this system include stomach, small intestine, large intestine, liver, pancreas and gall bladder. Example of the abnormality of digestive system such as:

  • Gas in stomach
  • Swallow or chewing foreign matter
  • Pancreatitis
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Food allergy
  • Various infection


 

Signs that indicate the abnormality of digestive system in animal include

  • Vomiting
  • Weight loss
  • Anorexia
  • Diarrhea
  • Emaciation

Disease of Endocrine gland

Endocrine system has a function of producing variety hormones for use in controlling of metabolism in various organs of your pets’ body. These mechanisms cover various parts of the body including your pets’ body temperature regulation; control of appetite level and all metabolisms in your pets’ body. Body development and functions associated with reproduction are also included.

Each endocrine gland plays a significant role in your pets’ health. Functional disturbance of an endocrine gland will lead to various symptoms including:

  • Excessive thirst and increased urination
  • Increased or decreased body weight without known etiology
  • Abnormal hair growth or loss

Because all above symptoms are the indications of many conditions, it is absolutely necessary for you as pets owner to cooperate with a veterinarian who has an in depth knowledge and skill in all aspects of pets’ health. Medical cares for functional disorders include treatment of thyroid gland, pituitary gland and adrenal gland.

Diseases of endocrine gland that are frequently founded in pets include disorder of thyroid gland and adrenal gland. These abnormal conditions of pets most likely occur in the middle-age and senior years.  Particularly, overactive thyroid gland – too much hormone or hyperthyroidism is more often seen in older cats with variety of symptoms include weight loss, increased heart rate and significant increased appetite. While in dogs underactive thyroid gland – too little hormone or hypothyroidism is often seen once they get older. The symptoms include lethargy and more weight gain. Additionally, the sign of hair loss of neck and tail is usually manifested.
